So I just did the math for DP's possibility of getting the highest average in the AL and it doesn't look good. Mauer would have to go 0-7 in this one game playoff to drop below Pedroia. BUT, look at the other numbers. Pedroia has had 120 more at bats than Mauer and nearly 40 more hits. Even the Major League leaders have had MANY fewer at bats and hits than ol' Destroia: Chipper Jones (214 less AB, 53 less hits) and Albert Pujols (129, 26). Among players with over 600 ABs, DP has by far the highest average. Average is nice but it doesnt necessarily take into account the long haul. Pedroia is an MVP beast.

Oh, DP has an astounding 653 ABs this year, 4th in the Majors.

Yeah, but Mauer is also a catcher - a much harder position to play than 2nd. However, after his performance in the one-game playoff, I move Pedroia way above him. Clutch matters, baby.
